Tips: Grill plate cooking is a versatile and delicious way to prepare a wide range of foods. Whether you're cooking meat, fish, vegetables, or even fruit, a grill plate provides the perfect surface for imparting those desirable grill marks and flavors. Here are some tips for grill plate cooking:
1. Preheat your grill plate: Make sure your grill plate is thoroughly preheated before placing any food on it. This helps to ensure even cooking and prevents sticking.
2. Oil the grill plate: Brushing a thin layer of oil onto the grill plate helps to prevent food from sticking and promotes even cooking. You can use a high smoke point oil like vegetable oil or grapeseed oil. If you want to keep it simple, cut one lemon in half and ‘’wash’’ the vertical rods directly with the lemon touching the rods.
3. Season your food: Season your food with your favourite herbs, spices, or marinades before placing it on the grill plate. This adds flavour and enhances the overall taste of your dish.
4. Use high heat: Grill plates are designed to withstand high heat, so don't be afraid to turn up the heat for a nice sear on your food. Just be sure to monitor your food closely to prevent burning.
5. Flip and rotate: To ensure even cooking, flip your food halfway through the cooking process and rotate it if necessary. This helps to achieve those coveted grill marks and ensures that your food cooks evenly on all sides.
6. Don't overcrowd the grill plate: Leave some space between each item on the grill plate to allow for proper air circulation and even cooking. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and prevent your food from achieving that perfect sear.
7. Let it rest: Allow your food to rest for a few minutes after removing it from the grill plate. This allows the juices to be redistributed, resulting in juicier and more flavourful meat. With these tips in mind, you'll be well on your way to mastering the art of grill plate cooking and creating delicious meals for friends and family to enjoy. Happy grilling!
Tip - How to clean my grill plate: The best and easiest way to clean is as soon as you finish cooking and the food comes out, to rub it with a wire brush and due to the heat, the fat is already soft and it goes away by itself.
The grills turn black because the old grease remains on top of the previous fat which when it’s exposed to high temperatures and sticks to the metal. The only way, in this case, to clean the grill, is to put the grill plate in a bucket of water for 12 hours or so, to soften and then scrub with a hand wire brush.
Conclusion: always clean the grill plates after cooking.
